I recently
retired from teaching in order to focus on consulting. I spent most of my teaching career working for the
Calgary Catholic School board teaching almost every grade and Special Ed. From 1994 to 2002 I worked
in a consulting position (six years as a Language Arts
Facilitator and two years as member of the Instructional
Technology Department). In these roles, I supported teachers in Language
Arts instruction, in meeting the needs of Learning Disabled students and
most recently in integrating Technology into the core curriculum subjects.
I have also done presentations and workshops for teacher's conventions, various
conferences and other Alberta school districts. As well, I have reviewed
Language Arts resources for major publishers. To support the use of
technology in the classroom I developed several teaching web sites, was a TELUS 2Learn Lead-Teacher and the author of a column on using the Internet
in the classroom. I also facilitated many workshops on the use of
technology in the classroom and assisted teachers in developing their own
projects.
The Instructional Technology Department was disbanded in June of 2002 and
I finished my teaching career at St. Joseph Junior High as a Language
Arts teacher. This provided me with the opportunity to test my mettle as a
"real" teacher once again and put my theories into practice. All in all it
was a great year in spite of lots of hard work, hours of marking, the
usual Jr. High issues and my all time most hated: report cards. St.
Joe's has an awesome staff and super kids. As for the classroom, I was pleased
that the students responded well to my project-based teaching and the
blend of traditional LA and new ways to communicate.
I continue to stay involved in both Language Arts and technology. My Literature Alive web site has become a labour of love. I am gradually
changing it's focus to a celebration of Canadian children's and young
adult literature. Check it out:

I've also expanded my consulting into
private web site development and computer support for small businesses and
individuals. Check out
